Data Transmission Format

Air Cargo and Conveyance information must be transmitted using EDIFACT format only. Air Supplementary Cargo information may be transmitted in both ANSI and EDIFACT formats. For further information on ANSI and EDIFACT message standards, please refer to the Electronic Commerce Client Requirements Document entitled Advance Commercial Information Air Client Document.

This section provides information regarding:

Conveyance, Cargo and Supplementary Cargo Reports can be transmitted in any order provided they meet the time frame requirements under the Advance Commercial Information program.

ACI Air Time Frames

The Advance Commercial Information (ACI) program requires air carriers to electronically transmit the air Cargo Report and Supplementary Cargo Report (if applicable) to the CBSA. Air carriers are also required to electronically transmit a Conveyance Report to the CBSA before arrival and a Conveyance Arrival Certification Message after the aircraft is cleared by NAVCAN to land at an airport following arrival in Canada.

This requirement allows the CBSA to effectively identify threats to Canada's health, safety, and security prior to the arrival of cargo and conveyance in Canada.

The following chart summarizes the ACI time frames for providing air Conveyance, Cargo, Split Shipment, Supplementary Cargo Reports, and the Conveyance Arrival Certification Message:

Conveyances with commercial cargo and a flight in excess of four hours

Four hours prior to arrival

Conveyances with commercial cargo and a flight less than four hours

Before aircraft's time of departure

Commercial cargo (including split shipment cargo) on a flight in excess of four hours

Four hours prior to arrival

Commercial cargo (including split shipment cargo) on a flight less than four hours

Before aircraft's time of departure

Supplementary Cargo Reports for commercial cargo on a flight in excess of four hours
