Perimeter security and economic competitiveness
Addressing Threats Early
Addressing threats at the earliest possible point is essential to our shared security, and to facilitating legitimate trade and travel across the Canada-United States border. By developing a common understanding of the threat environment, Canada and the United States are aligning our security systems to effectively manage risks.
For more information on the full list of deliverables under the joint Action Plan, please visit Public Safety Canada’s Beyond the Border Action Plan Web site.
Integrated Cargo Security Strategy
Screening inbound cargo under the principle "cleared once, accepted twice" will result in increased security and expedited movement of secure cargo across the Canada-United States border.
For more information, visit our Integrated Cargo Security Strategy Web page.
Entry/Exit Information Systems
Coordinating entry and exit information systems will allow Canada and the United States to share information, so that the record of a land entry into one country may be used to establish an exit record from the other.
For more information, visit our Entry/Exit Initiative Web page.
Interactive Advance Passenger Information
This initiative will establish a common approach to screening travellers flying to Canada prior to departure.
For more information, visit our Interactive Advance Passenger Information Web page.
