At first I said, no, that’s impossible. It’s impossible, I can’t be having a burnout, I’m so young.

My name is Edna Chelot. I am a senior audit officer on the values team.

In around 2005, in the finance section there was a lot of work to be done. I was managing a team and everything.

So, being a very dedicated, competitive woman, I put in so, so, so much. I spent many, many, many hours at work, and I had two small kids at home.

I was feeling tired, exhausted, everything. But I didn’t dare to tell anyone. When I went to see my doctor, that’s when she told me, ok, I think you’re burning out.

I said no, that’s impossible. It’s impossible, I can’t be having a burnout, I’m so young. I was in my twenties at the time.

So, no, she explained that you are in fact having a burnout, so I’m putting you on leave for three months, then you’ll come back. So that experience made me realize that I’m not immune from burning out.

So my message for everyone, is to really take the time to listen to your body, to take a step back and say, ok, I need a break, I’m entitled to a break, and then to actually take a break.
