Report to the CBSA with the ReportIn application

On this page

Overview

ReportIn is a mobile application that allows individuals with reporting conditions to fulfil their conditions with the CBSA remotely. The application allows the CBSA to verify their identity and location via their smartphone or mobile device.

Getting enrolled

When the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) or the CBSA imposes a reporting condition, a CBSA officer assesses the individual to determine if the use of ReportIn is a suitable option. Individuals will only have access to create an account if ReportIn is suitable and they choose to participate in the program. Enrollment is initiated by a CBSA officer.

Enrollment in ReportIn is done in-person at a designated CBSA location. At that time, the individual will be informed, in their language of choice, and/or with the assistance of an interpreter, about the personal information that may be collected, shared, used, stored and/or disclosed. The individual will need to formally agree to allow the app to collect and share personal information with the CBSA, including a facial photo and their location details. If the individual does not wish to have this information collected and shared, other Alternatives to Detention (ATD) options will be assessed.

Once enrolled, the individual receives a unique code to access the ReportIn app, and must read and agree to the Terms of Use.

How it works

When a ReportIn account is created, users provide the following biographical, biometric and contact information:

When it is time to report, users submit a new series of photos on the app. A CBSA officer validates every photo sent in order to ensure that the individual reporting corresponds to the individual with reporting conditions. During this time, their location is also shared with the CBSA using the GPS on their device. The CBSA will use this information to verify that the individual is complying with their conditions. The individual's location may also be shared with the CBSA when the individual does not comply with their reporting condition.

User support

Individuals experiencing technical difficulties or unable to report, can contact the CBSA officer assigned to their case.
