Partners in Protection
What the program offers
From: Canada Border Services Agency
As a member, your company can take advantage of the following benefits:
- access to the Trusted Trader portal to keep your membership documents up-to-date
- a dedicated email inbox
- an assigned CBSA contact
- access to the designated, lower wait-time Free and Secure Trade (FAST) lanes to save you time if your shipment is eligible
- lower examination rates at the border
- status as a Trusted Trader in Canada and in other countries under the CBSA's growing list of mutual recognition arrangements (MRAs)
The program also aligns with:
- the World Customs Organization's SAFE Framework of Standards to Secure and Facilitate Global Trade
- the guidelines for Authorized Economic Operators program
Mutual recognition arrangements signed by the CBSA
By signing an MRA with a foreign customs administration both the CBSA and the other organization:
- acknowledge that their trusted trader programs are compatible
- agree to exchange basic information about members
- provide members with benefits, such as less chances of border examinations
As a PIP member, you can get recognized as a low risk trader in the other country. This means faster border clearance and greater market access. Members can select which MRA partners they wish to receive benefits from.
The CBSA has MRAs in place with the following customs organizations, arranged by date signed:
-
U.S. Customs and Border Protection: Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) program -
